About 1.3" thick. No need for separate puddle pad with the cotton/wool outer, it's already there on one side WITH ORGANIC COTTON ON THE OTHER. Easy to care for. Clean the wool side with gentle soap and water if soiled with anything other than urine. Otherwise just air dry and bacteria dies within an hour. This is designed to use the wool side. If the organic cotton side is used, a wool moisture pad is recommended to protect the mattress.
